From Andover...to the stars!

On Tuesday 8th September 2020, a craft was launched from central Andover to the very edge of space.

Spayce McSpaceFace was the maiden voyage of the Andover Space Programme, a community arts project led by Upstart Theatre's Artistic Director Tom Mansfield, and co-created with Andover Young Carers and Picket Twenty Fillies WI.

Spayce McSpaceFace flew to an altitude of more than 30 kilometers, taking photos as it went, before returning to earth and being recovered just outside Guildford. On board the spacecraft was a memory stick containing people's photographs and poetry about their life here on Earth.

This video, made by Rebecca Kenyon of Mote of Dust Films, tells the story of the voyage of Spayce McSpaceFace.

You can also go and visit Spayce McSpaceFace at Winchester Science Centre, or play One Red Balloon, our game recreating its epic voyage, on your iPhone or Android device.
