When was the last time someone told you that you’re beautiful…?

On 15 August 2009, Upstart presented When was the last time someone told you that you’re beautiful…? as part of the Tristan Bates Theatre‘s Midnight Matinee summer extravaganza.
Comprising installations, solo performances and video art, the piece played from just before midnight Saturday to 3am Sunday morning.
The piece was conceived and performed by Laura Casey, Matthew Duggan, Kate McGregor, Luke Owen, Hannah Thomson and Tom Wateracre. It was directed by Tom Mansfield and designed by Giulia Scrimieri. The writers were Sarah Beck, Dan Costello, Dawn King, Kate Mulley, Lib Murray, Kate Rudkins, Sarah Sigal and Andrew Taylor.
This micro-site includes a gallery, podcasts, video and a link to add your own answers to the question “when was the last time someone told you that you’re beautiful”. Have fun exploring.

Video Blog
While in the middle of making the installation, Artistic Director Tom Mansfield still found time to occasionally point a camera around. Here’s a video diary of making When Was The Last Time Someone Told You That You’re Beautiful…? and of some of the other things happening around the Actors Centre on the night.
Video Installation
This video played as part of the installation both in the theatre auditorium and throughout the building. Click to watch.
Listen to monologues
The installation included monologues which the audience could listen to on headphones, and others which were done as one-on-one performances – you can also listen to them here.
