His theatre credits include the young Laurie Lee in Cider With Rosie at the New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough; the Cook in Katie Mitchell's The Seagull at the National Theatre; for Hush Productions Macbeth at the Lakeside Theatre, Nottingham, The Hush at Edinburgh and New York festivals, Death and the City at the Tron Studio, Glasgow and Mobile Thriller on tour, all directed by Carrie Cracknell.
James is an associate artist of Hush Productions, and also co-artistic director of Soma Theatre Company.
