Beneath the City: on sale now

After the death of her mother, a young woman flees from her home. She arrives in a new city, asking for sanctuary. But before it’s granted, furious bureaucrats demand their own justice. As she is put on trial for a crime she denies, the community wrestles with its commitment to the people and to power.

Beneath the City will play at Birmingham REP from 16-18 January 2020. This production is made in Birmingham with a Citizen Chorus of Young REP members, Adult Drama Company members, refugees and asylum seekers. Inspired by Greek tragedy, critically-acclaimed Upstart Theatre combine music, lyrical writing and movement to tell a tale about how the decisions we’ve made haunt us.

Beneath The City is one part of The Chorus Project, an international collaboration between Upstart Theatre in the UK, Pathos München in Germany, Theater am Lend in Austria, and MKC Youth Cultural Centre in the Republic of Northern Macedonia.
